How Double-Sided Window Decals Work
Most stickers are designed to be seen from a single direction. Double-sided window decals are built differently. They start with an 8 mil plastic substrate that is engineered specifically to block light from passing through — this is what prevents the graphic on one side from showing through to the other. A full-color print is applied to both faces of the material using UV-resistant inks, and a removable adhesive is laminated to one side for installation on glass or other smooth surfaces.
The opaque barrier in the middle is the key to making both sides look vibrant and true to color. Without it, the darker colors from one design would muddy the other. With it, each side reads as its own independent graphic — which means you can run two completely different messages if your brand calls for it, or mirror the same design so it looks identical coming and going.

How to Install Double-Sided Window Decals
Double-sided window decals install on any clean, smooth surface — glass doors and storefront windows are ideal. Our decals use an adhesive that is specifically formulated for glass surfaces, which means you don’t need to use the wet application method that’s common with other vinyl decals. The adhesive is engineered to release air naturally as you apply it, so you get a clean, bubble-free result without any soap, water, or special tools. Water can actually contaminate this type of adhesive and affect how well it bonds, so dry installation is always the right approach.
What you’ll need:
A clean, lint-free cloth
A squeegee or credit card
Isopropyl alcohol (optional, for surface prep)
Step 1 — Clean the surface. Wipe down the window or glass door thoroughly with a clean, lint-free cloth. If there’s any grease, oil, or residue on the glass, a quick wipe with isopropyl alcohol will remove it and give you the cleanest possible bonding surface. Let it dry completely before moving on.
Step 2 — Plan your placement. Hold the decal up to the window (liner still on) and decide exactly where you want it. If you’re centering it or aligning it to a specific point, use a piece of masking tape as a temporary reference mark — this saves you from having to guess once the adhesive is exposed.
Step 3 — Remove the release liner. Peel the release liner away from the adhesive side of the decal. Peel slowly and evenly — if the liner is stubborn, fold a small piece of tape onto one corner to give yourself something to grip. The liner is a frosted semi-transparent film, so it can be easy to mistake for part of the decal if you’re working quickly.
Step 4 — Apply the decal. Position the decal against the glass and press it into place starting from the center and working outward. Because the adhesive is designed to self-release air, you don’t need to rush or fight bubbles — just apply even, steady pressure with your hand as you go.
Step 5 — Squeegee for a firm bond. Once the decal is in position, use a squeegee or the edge of a credit card to press firmly from the center outward in overlapping strokes. This ensures full contact between the adhesive and the glass surface for a strong, lasting bond. No heat or moisture needed.
Step 6 — Inspect the edges. Run your finger along all four edges to make sure they’re fully adhered. Corner and edge lifting is the most common installation issue and is easy to prevent by giving these areas a firm press before you walk away.
For larger decals, having a second person help hold the decal in position before you peel the liner makes the process significantly easier and reduces the chance of the adhesive touching itself mid-application.
Caring for Your Double-Sided Window Decals
With proper care, your double-sided window decals can last anywhere from 3 to 5 years depending on sun exposure and environmental conditions. Here’s how to keep them looking their best:
Cleaning: Regular cleaning is fine. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the surface of the decal. Mild soap and water work well for removing dirt or fingerprints. Avoid abrasive cleaning pads or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can dull the laminate over time.
Pressure washing: Do not use a pressure washer on or near your decals. The high-pressure stream can lift the edges and cause peeling, especially on decals that have been installed for an extended period.
Sun exposure: UV-resistant inks are used on all of our double-sided window decals, which helps maintain color vibrancy over time. Decals installed in direct, full-day sun will naturally fade faster than those in shaded locations — this is normal and expected for any outdoor-rated graphics.
Removal: When it’s time to remove the decal, peel it back slowly from one corner, pulling at a low angle close to the surface. If the decal has been in place for a long time, gentle heat from a hair dryer can soften the adhesive and make removal easier. Any residue can be cleaned off with a damp cloth or light adhesive remover.
Storage: If you need to store unused decals before applying them, keep them flat, at room temperature, and away from direct sunlight or humidity. Stored properly, decals can remain ready to apply for up to a year before the adhesive begins to degrade.
