Features of Warning Stickers

Faded peeling warning sticker next to a bright new custom warning sticker on equipment

Bold colors that stay bold

A warning nobody can read isn’t a warning. We print with UV-resistant outdoor inks and seal every sticker under a protective laminate, so your reds, oranges, and yellows stay bright through sun, rain, and daily wipe-downs.

Sticks where the hazard is

Our adhesive grips metal, plastic, painted, and powder-coated surfaces so the warning stays right next to the hazard. Working with oily, textured, or high-wear surfaces? Step up to our heavy duty stickers.

How to Design a Warning Sticker People Actually Read

A warning sticker gets a glance, not a read. People see it for a second or two while they’re working, so the layout has to do the job fast.

Lead with the signal word. Start with DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, or NOTICE in a bold header panel. It tells people how serious the hazard is before they read anything else.

Use the right color. Safety colors are familiar for a reason. People recognize them before they read the words. See the signal word guide below.

Add a symbol. A simple pictogram (hand pinch, electrical bolt, hot surface) gets the point across faster than text and works for people who don’t read English.

Keep the message short. Say what the hazard is, what can happen, and how to avoid it. “Moving parts can crush hands. Lock out before servicing.” Skip full paragraphs.

Go bilingual when you need to. English and Spanish on one sticker is common on job sites and in plants. Size up one step to keep both languages readable.

Size for the distance. A sticker read from arm’s length can be small. One read from across a shop floor needs bigger letters. The size guide below gives a starting point.

Following ANSI Z535 or ISO 3864 formatting? Send us your layout and we’ll print it as designed. Not sure how to set up your file? Email us at hello@comgraphx.com and we’ll walk you through it.

Warning Stickers vs. Heavy Duty Stickers vs. Safety Signs

Not every warning needs the same material. Here’s how to choose.

Warning stickers (this page) are the right fit for most equipment, panels, products, and doors. They’re thin enough to wrap gentle curves and tough enough for years outdoors.

Heavy duty stickers are nearly three times as thick with an ultra-aggressive adhesive. Choose them for oily, textured, or high-abrasion surfaces like heavy equipment and oil field gear. See our heavy duty stickers.

Safety signs are rigid panels that mount to a wall or post. Use them when the warning needs to be seen from a distance. See PVC signs for indoors and aluminum signs for outdoors.
