Features of Aluminum Signs
Solid metal, not a plastic sandwich
Many online “aluminum signs” are aluminum composite, meaning thin aluminum skins wrapped around a plastic core. Ours are solid aluminum all the way through. There’s no core to swell, delaminate, or crack at the edges.
Built to live outdoors
Aluminum won’t rot, rust, or warp like wood or plastic signs. Outdoor-rated inks and a UV laminate protect your colors from fading, so your sign still looks sharp years after install.
Made in the USA
These products are made in Broken Arrow, OK by a hardworking group of men and women just like you.
How to Design an Aluminum Sign People Can Actually Read
Most metal signs are read from a parking lot, a sidewalk, or a moving car. Good design is mostly about restraint.
One message per sign. “Reserved Parking” or “Authorized Personnel Only.” A sign trying to say three things says none of them.
Size your text for the distance. A common sign industry rule of thumb is about 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet of viewing distance. If people read it from 30 feet away, your key text should be around 3 inches tall.
Go high contrast. Dark on light or light on dark. Red on black and yellow on white disappear from a distance.
Use standard colors for safety signs. People already know red means danger, yellow means caution, and green means safety information. Following those conventions makes safety signs work faster.
Leave room for the holes. Keep text and logos about ½″ inside the edges so mounting holes and screws don’t cut into your message.

Aluminum Sign Size Guide
| Size | Best for | Readable from about* |
|---|---|---|
| 6″ x 12″ | Door signs, ID plates, fence signs | 10–20 ft |
| 10″ x 14″ | OSHA and safety notices, equipment signs | 15–25 ft |
| 12″ x 18″ | Parking and no trespassing signs. Most popular. | 25–40 ft |
| 18″ x 24″ | Property and entrance signs, contractor signs | 40–60 ft |
| 24″ x 24″ | Logo signs, directional and wall signs | 50–70 ft |
| 24″ x 36″ | Construction site and large facility signs | 60–100 ft |

Solid Aluminum vs. Aluminum Composite Signs
When you shop for aluminum signs online, you’ll see two very different products under the same name.
Solid aluminum (what we print) is one sheet of metal all the way through. It’s thinner, lighter and fully rustproof. It’s the same material traffic and parking signs have used for decades.
Aluminum composite (sometimes sold as ACM or Dibond) is two thin aluminum skins bonded to a plastic core. It’s thicker and very flat, which makes it popular for large indoor and wall-mounted displays. The plastic core is still plastic, though. Edges can show the core, and cheaper panels can delaminate after years of sun and temperature swings.
For post-mounted, fence-mounted, and outdoor business signs, solid aluminum is the proven choice.
FAQs for Custom Aluminum Signs
Ours are printed on solid .040″ aluminum with a white baked enamel finish and outdoor-rated inks. Unlike composite signs, there’s no plastic core.
With outdoor-rated inks and a UV laminate, our aluminum signs are built to last 5-7 years outdoors. The aluminum itself won’t rust, so the print will wear out before the metal does. Sun exposure and climate affect lifespan.
12″ x 18″ is the most common size for parking, no trespassing and policy signs. 18″ x 24″ is standard for property, contractor and real estate signs.
For long-term outdoor use, yes. Plastic signs can crack and warp in a season or two. Aluminum is rigid, rustproof and built to stay up for years.
Use screws on wood and walls, bolts with rustproof washers on sign posts, rivets on metal surfaces, and zip ties on chain link. [Every sign comes with pre-drilled holes.] Mounting hardware is not included.
